Domain Name

Each website has a unique name or "address" that identifies its location. Typically, a web page address or URL is made up of the name of the server followed by the path to the file on that server space. If you don't want the webhost's server name to appear in your webpage's URL, then you can register your own customized domain name (costs approx. $10/year).

Domain names must be registered with a certified registrar in order to be valid and useable on the internet and to prevent others from registering the same name.

Having your own domain name makes your URL address easier to remember, easier to type, and therefore easier to visit.

Another advantage to having your own domain name is that even if you switch to a different webhost, your website URL will stay the same!
