Webhosting
Webhosting companies provide storage space on their computers/servers for clients to store their files and make them accessible via the internet. Many people already have a small amount of free personal webspace available from their Internet Service Provider which can be used for posting a resume, blog, or family photos to share with friends and relatives, etc., but usually not for business use. There are hundreds of webhosting companies providing a wide range of hosting packages to suit your needs. There are a number of features to consider when looking for a webhost. Here are just a few examples:
- Price - usually a monthly rate of approx. $4/month; setup fees? Are you required to commit to a term contract of 1 or 2 years?
- How much disk space will you have? Don't pay for more than you need. Consider that html files are usually small while images take up significantly more space.
- Technical Support - by phone or email; Reponse time?
- Will the company register a domain name? Cost?
- How fast is their server's connection to the internet? Does the server experience down time?
- Will you be able to run advanced features such as CGI scripts, Server Side Includes, PHP, MySQL, etc.?
- Do they offer a Statistics service to monitor the number of people who have visited your website?
